I know, I am very open minded myself but... I dunno. I can rationalize it in some ways like the whole 'it is essentially a blow up doll' thing, but yeah, like you said, they are so socially/romantically inept they make believe these dolls are real... I mean, they KNOW they aren't, they all say 'It is better than being alone' which means they KNOW the dolls aren't real or a substitute for interacting with real people but they choose to just give up and play with dolls instead.
And I agree about the lolita dolls... I think this is creepy just hearing the way they talk about them, and seeing them hang the dolls on the hooks and shit D:
